Eight recent Allegany-Limestone and Oswayo Valley graduates were awarded scholarships from funds managed by the Cattaraugus Region Community Foundation.
Cadence Shoup of Allegany-Limestone received the Louis W. Ensworth Charitable Foundation Trust Scholarship for Allegany-Limestone for $2,500
This scholarship fund, established by Louis Ensworth, provides two scholarships annually. The first, a $500 annual scholarship, benefits a deserving student participating in the girls' basketball program at Allegany-Limestone Central School. The fund also supports a $2,500 award for a deserving student who will attend a 2- or 4-year college or trade school who has maintained a B or better average and has worked hard to achieve their academic success. The recipient will be eligible to receive the scholarship for up to two years. The Louis Ensworth Trust also supports two annual scholarships at Olean High School.
Shoup plans to study agricultural technology at Alfred State College.
Loren Moshier and Sierra Bish of Allegany-Limestone and Mia Shaffer of Oswayo Valley Central School received the Christine Conner Memorial Scholarship for $500 each.
Christine Conner was a 1984 graduate of Oswayo Valley Central School and school counselor at Allegany-Limestone Middle School. This scholarship carries on her support of education and children by supporting annual scholarships with preference for students furthering their education in criminal justice or the EMT field and for students pursuing a degree in nursing or the mental health field.
Moshier plans to study nursing at Duquesne University. Shaffer plans to study psychology at Houghton University.
Bish also received the Tommy Moran Memorial Scholarship for $1,000.
Established in memory of Tommy Moran, a 2018 graduate of Allegany-Limestone Central School, by his family, the scholarship will go to a student who demonstrates financial need and intends to pursue a major in a trade/technical-related field of study or who plans to attend Alfred State College or any other trade/technical school; and/or has participated in athletics and demonstrated leadership in athletics during his/her high school career.
Bish plans to study criminal justice at Alfred State College.
Kailey Truman and Madelyn Price-Costa of Allegany-Limestone received the Chipmonk Community Hall Scholarship for $600 each.
This scholarship fund supports awards for graduating students of Allegany-Limestone Central School, with preference given to a current resident of or a relative of a current resident of the Allegany, NY area of Chipmonk.
Truman plans to study medical imaging at Pennsylvania Western University. Price-Costa plans to study biology at James Madison University.
Amelia McCarthy of Allegany-Limestone received the Patricia McCarthy Memorial Scholarship for $500.
This scholarship is available to Allegany-Limestone Central School and Olean High School graduating seniors accepted to either a 2- or 4-year college, in good academic standing. The preferred candidate demonstrates entrepreneurial spirit and has a strong record of service to others and extracurricular involvement. Michael Wittmeyer and his mother, Dr. Carol Wittmeyer, established the scholarship in memory of Michael’s nanny for 18 years, Patricia McCarthy.
McCarthy plans to study occupational therapy at Keuka College.
Madison Honeck of Allegany-Limestone received the Dennis Jones and Wayne Johnston Memorial Dice Run Scholarship.
The $500 scholarship is for a graduating senior from either Olean High School or Allegany-Limestone Central School who will be attending a 4-year college, with preference for a student planning to study business or a business-related field (i.e. accounting, finance, marketing, economics etc.)
Honeck plans to study diagnostic sonography at the Rochester Institute of Technology.
