Eight area graduates were recently awarded career/technical scholarships through funds managed by the Cattaraugus Region Community Foundation.
Brody Frame of Olean, Dylan Chudy of Portville and Sean Howard of Franklinville were awarded the Arnold McHone Sr. Manufacturing Scholarship at varying amounts.
Established by Yvonne McHone in memory of her husband and founder of McHone Industries, Arnold McHone, the Arnold McHone St. Manufacturing Scholarship is for graduating seniors or graduates from any high school in Cattaraugus County pursuing a technical education at any post-secondary one- or two-year institution in any field related to manufacturing.
Frame is currently studying electrical construction at Alfred State College. Chudy plans to study building construction at Alfred State College. Howard plans to study welding and applied science at SUNY Niagara.
Olean High School’s Larson Hawkes and Nolan Kelsey received the Paul and Betty Hanson Career/Technical Scholarship for $800.
The scholarship, established by the late Paul Hanson and his wife, Betty Hanson, is awarded annually to one or two graduating Olean High School students pursuing a post-secondary career or technical education at a trade school. Students pursuing other majors may be chosen if no applicants are pursuing a trade education.
Hawkes plans to study heavy equipment at Alfred State College. Kelsey plans to study electrical construction at Alfred State College.
Mara Ours of Smethport Central School received the Kathleen Loop Snyder Memorial Scholarship for $2,000.
The scholarship, in memory of Kathleen Loop Snyder who worked for more than 30 years as a speech pathologist through the Seneca Highlands IU9, is for a student graduating from Smethport Area School District. Preference is for a student pursuing post-secondary education in a career/vo-tech field.
Ours plans to study food science at Pennsylvania State University.
Olivia Black of Olean High School and Arthur Goudie of Allegany-Limestone Central School received the Sara Mollica Memorial Scholarship for $400.
The Sara Mollica Memorial Scholarship provides two scholarship each year, one for Allegany-Limestone Central School and one for Olean High School, for students pursuing post-secondary education in a career/technical field or health-care related field of study.
Black plans to study neuroscience at Mercyhurst University. Goudie plans to study electrical construction at Alfred State College.
