Five area graduates have received athletics-focused scholarships from funds managed by the Cattaraugus Region Community Foundation.
Viktoriia Lozynska of Olean High School, Noah Sherman of Northern Potter Central School (PA), Molly Hanslovan of St. Mary’s High School (PA) and Ava Hilfiger of Cameron County High School (PA) received the Big 30 Athletic Scholarship for $1,000 each.
Established by the Big 30 Athletic Fund committee, the Big 30 Athletic Fund supports the organization’s effort to provide scholarship funding to deserving student athletes in the region served by the Big 30, including Allegany and Cattaraugus Counties as well as areas of northwestern Pennsylvania. Recipients of this scholarship must have participated in at least two sports for all four years of high school.
Sherman plans to attend Susquehanna University to study public relations/advertising. Hanslovan plans to attend Washington and Jefferson College to study biology. Hilfiger plans to attend Immaculata University to study nursing.
Lozynska also received the Louis W. Ensworth Charitable Foundation Trust Scholarship for Olean High School, while Serena Frederick received the Louis W. Ensworth Charitable Foundation Trust Scholarship for Allegany-Limestone, each for $500.
These scholarships, established by Louis Ensworth, a former educator and coach, in 2018, benefit a deserving student participating in the girls’ basketball program at both Allegany-Limestone Central School and Olean High School. Recipients are recommended by the coaches at each school.
Lozynska plans to attend Houghton University to study business. Frederick plans to attend Robert Morris University to study nursing.
