The family of David McInroy has established the David L. McInroy Memorial Scholarship at the Cattaraugus Region Community Foundation to honor his life and legacy while supporting future generations of students at Allegany-Limestone Central School.
Through this scholarship, the McInroy family hopes to reflect his lifelong values of perseverance and community involvement while helping students pursue educational opportunities.
McInroy was a proud graduate of Allegany-Limestone Central School, where he was a member of the undefeated 1958-59 Blue Devils basketball team, a group later honored with induction into the school’s Wall of Fame.
Following high school, McInroy continued his basketball career at Erie Community College on a scholarship before serving his country in the United States Army as a radar specialist. After his military service, he returned to Western New York and built a long and successful career at Dresser-Rand for seventeen years, and later as the owner and operator of Allegany Supply Co. in Olean for over 30 years.
McInroy was known for his dedication to youth programs, including helping to instruct the Hinsdale Starliners Color Guard and founding the Allegany Color Guard program. He also served as president of the PTA at Hinsdale Central School and remained a steadfast supporter of student activities and athletics throughout his life.
The endowed scholarship will support an annual scholarship for graduating seniors of Allegany-Limestone Central School who plan to pursue a degree at any higher education institution. First preference will be for a student who is on the men’s or women’s basketball team who demonstrates financial need and is in good academic standing. Second preference will be for any graduating senior who demonstrates financial need and is in good academic standing.
“This scholarship will forever honor my father’s legacy and will be a small way of paying it forward,” said McInroy’s daughter, Jill Dunn.
