Five awarded Schwabenbauer, Pancio scholarships

Five area graduates recent received scholarship awards from funds stewarded by the Cattaraugus Region Community Foundation.

Mallory Carter and Josiah Todd of Olean High School, Claira Scott of Portville Central School and Leah Burrows of Otto-Eldred High School received the Ben and Rose Schwabenbauer Educational Scholarship for $750 each.

The scholarship provides annual scholarships for graduating seniors from Otto-Eldred High School (PA), Bradford Area High School (PA), Olean High School or Portville Central School who will be attending a four-year school. Preference is for students planning to pursue a degree or career in education, law enforcement or a related field.

Carter will attend St. Bonaventure University to study early childhood education. Todd will attend St. Bonaventure University to study adolescent education. Scott will attend the University of Kentucky to study medical laboratory sciences. Burrows will attend the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford to study criminal justice.

Ava Finch of Olean High School received the George and Marcia Pancio Scholarship for $500.

The scholarship, established by the Pancio family, is for a graduating senior of Olean High School planning to study in the education or medical field. The student also needs to complete an essay question about patriotism.

Finch will attend Indiana University of Pennsylvania to study speech language pathology.
