Seven area graduates were recently awarded alumni scholarships through funds managed by the Cattaraugus Region Community Foundation.
Jourdan Morris and Josiah Todd received the Olean High School Alumni Association Scholarship.
The scholarship, $1,000 per year for up to four years, is for graduating seniors of OHS attending a post-secondary institution. Applications are reviewed by the OHS Alumni Association Scholarship committee, which recommends the recipients.
Morris plans to study political science at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Todd plans to study adolescent education at St. Bonaventure University.
Adrian Bohdanowycz and Samuel Morgan received the OHS Class of 1961 Scholarship for $700.
Established by Duane A. Geuder, a 1961 Olean High School alumnus, and his classmates, the scholarship honors the class and its teachers, in particular Norm Utecht and Mabel Wilson. The scholarship is given to two OHS students who have the top GPA in their math and science classes.
Bohdanowycz plans to study finance at the University of Pittsburgh. Morgan plans to study astrophysics at Ohio University.
Lily Eaton received the OHS Class of 1983 Scholarship for $500.
This scholarship was created by the Olean High School class of 1983 in memory of all of the deceased members of the class. The scholarship shall be awarded with first preference to a graduating high school senior who is a relative of a member of the Olean High School class of 1983, with second preference for a graduating senior of Olean High School who is active in extracurriculars and/or community service.
Eaton plans to study aviation at Ohio University.
Leah Burrows and Haley Jordan received the Otto-Eldred Alumni Scholarship for $1,500 each.
The Otto-Eldred Alumni Scholarship is a scholarship given annually to Otto-Eldred High School graduating seniors who have maintained at least a 2.75 GPA and received acceptance to, preferably, a two-year college or a four-year program.
Burrows plans to study criminal justice at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford. Jordan plans to study business management at SUNY Delhi.
