A number of area nonprofit organizations recently received support from endowment funds at the Cattaraugus Region Community Foundation, together totaling nearly $15,000.
These endowment funds – including the Samuel Costa Endowment Fund, Paul and Betty Hanson Fund, Paul and Mary Janowicz Memorial Fund, Laine Family Fund, Carroll Anstaett Little League Fund and Beth Todd Memorial Fund – were all established to provide reliable funding to causes loved by the donor.
The Paul and Betty Hanson Fund, established by Paul and Betty Hanson of Olean, allowed four grants to causes loved by Betty Hanson and her late husband, Paul, who passed away in 2018. Grants were made to Olean Public Library, Olean Little League, Mercy Flight Inc. and the Olean General Hospital Foundation, each totaling $374.
Another fund established by the Hansons, the Paul and Mary Janowicz Memorial Fund, which memorializes Ms. Hanson’s parents, made possible three grants of $357 each to Olean Public Library, the Olean General Hospital Foundation and the Town of Great Valley.
The Carroll Anstaett Olean Little League Fund, established by the late Carroll Anstaett and his wife, Dolores, made its annual distribution to the little league, this year totaling $6,228.
The Beth Todd Memorial Fund, established by Todd’s husband Greg Todd after his wife lost her battle with breast cancer, made possible a $888 grant to the Pink Pumpkin Project in her memory.
The Samuel Costa Endowment Fund, established by Samuel Costa of Smethport, PA, made possible three grants to: St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church, $1,900; St. Raphael’s Parish, $950; and Hamlin Memorial Library, $950.
The Laine Family Fund, which was established by Peter Laine, made possible a grant of $1,490 to MountainTrue, an Asheville, NC based nonprofit that aims to protect local forests, safeguard clean water and build healthier communities.
Over the years, these endowment funds have together made possible over $251,500 in grants to support the organizations chosen by the donors.
