Area graduates receive Ensworth, other CRCF scholarships

Seven recent area graduates have been awarded scholarships via funds managed by the Cattaraugus Region Community Foundation.

Felicia Callahan received the Louis W. Ensworth Charitable Foundation Trust Scholarship for Allegany-Limestone, while DyAndrah Hanson received the Louis W. Ensworth Charitable Foundation Trust Scholarship for Olean High School for $2,500 each.

This scholarship fund, established by Louis Ensworth, provides two scholarships annually – one to a graduate of Allegany-Limestone Central School and one to Olean High School. The scholarship is awarded to a deserving student who will attend a 2- or 4-year college or trade school who has maintained a B or better average and has worked hard to achieve their academic success. The recipient will be eligible to receive the scholarship for up to two years.

Callahan plans to study interior design at Villa Maria College. Hanson plans to study nursing at Jamestown Community College.

Claire Fitzgerald of Hamburg High School received the Mark J. Prockton Memorial Scholarship for $700.

The Prockton scholarship is for a graduating senior from Hamburg High School who has lettered in cross country and has the highest GPA. Gregg and Mike Prockton established the scholarship in memory of their brother, Mark J. Prockton, a former New York City school teacher, Hamburg High School alumnus and runner.

Fitzgerald plans to study biochemistry at Binghamton University.

Brooklyn Deibler of Hinsdale Central School received the Betty Pappas Scholarship.

The $800 scholarship, established through the estate of Betty Pappas, a former Hinsdale teacher and guidance counselor, is awarded to a student in the graduating class at Hinsdale Central School who will be attending a college or university and has given outstanding service to Hinsdale Central School.

Deibler plans to study electrical engineering at Rochester Institute of Technology.

Tyler Richards of Hinsdale Central School received the Elodine Swarts Baxter and Lena Conrad Swarts Memorial Scholarship for $1,500.

This scholarship is for a promising and deserving graduating senior from Hinsdale Central School or a resident of Ischua, NY, regardless of what high school the student attends. The student must demonstrate academic success and involvement in extracurricular activities.

Richards plans to study sports media and business management at St. Bonaventure University.

Nii Narku Hanson-Nortey of New Life Christian School received the Maryetta’s Mission Scholarship for $500.

The Maryetta’s Mission Scholarship is for students who are entering or currently in a post-secondary program for Christian-based ministerial studies, and who is a resident of Western Pennsylvania or Western New York, and who has submitted a transcript from their first semester or fall semester of study with at least a 2.5 GPA.

Hanson-Nortey plans to study biochemistry at Geneva College.

Airella Rogers of Pioneer Central School received the Ginger D. Schroder Cattaraugus County Legislative District 2 Scholarship for $500.

Ginger D. Schroder, of Farmersville, established this scholarship through her legislative salary after being elected to the Cattaraugus County Legislature. The scholarship is given to a graduating high school student residing in Cattaraugus County Legislative District 2, which includes the towns of Ashford, East Otto, Ellicottville, Farmersville, Franklinville, Freedom, Great Valley, Ischua, Lyndon, Machias and Yorkshire.

Rogers plans to study finance at Canisius University.
