Four current college students were awarded scholarships from funds managed by the Cattaraugus Region Community Foundation.

Jaelyn Wojewoda-Ko and Lacy Nickola were awarded the Sondra J. Fox Scholarship for $2,000 each.

Established by Ruth D. Palmquist, Sondra J. Fox and Laurel S. Daise, this fund’s purpose is to provide a scholarship for a student from Cattaraugus or McKean County who is pursuing a career in the mental health field with first preference for a student in a master’s level program and second preference for an undergraduate college student who will be entering his/her junior or senior year. Major fields include, but are not limited to, counseling, social work and psychiatric nursing.

Wojewoda-Ko, an undergraduate student at Alfred University, is studying psychology. Nickola, a graduate student at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford, is studying social work.

Susan Alvarado was awarded the Community Scholarship for $300.

The Community Scholarship provides scholarship opportunities for all students in Cattaraugus County regardless of high school or post-secondary major. Financial need and academic merit may be considered.

Alvarado is currently a graduate student at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford studying social work.

Benjamin Howard received the Southern Tier Military Support Group Scholarship for $300.

Established by the Southern Tier Military Support Group through the Southern Tier Military Support Group Fund at the Cattaraugus Region Community Foundation, this scholarship award is available to nontraditional students who are veterans, or for graduating high school seniors who are the children or dependents of a veteran or who are planning to enroll in an ROTC program during their college education.

Howard is a current graduate student at Gannon University majoring in nursing/anesthesia.
