Five recent area graduates have received awards from the Jonathan Teuscher Scholarship and the Joseph and Cecily Higgins Scholarship, funds stewarded by the Cattaraugus Region Community Foundation.

Gavin Straub of Allegany-Limestone Central School, Daphne Gobien of Hinsdale Central School, Alana Rowand of Olean High School and Anna Keeley of Portville Central School received the Jonathan Teuscher Scholarship.

The Jonathan Teuscher Scholarship, established by Steve and Donna Teuscher in memory of their son, Jonathan, is given to students from Olean, Hinsdale, Portville and Allegany-Limestone who have faced challenges while maintaining a positive attitude. The scholarship of $625 is renewable each year of continued education up to four years, for a total of $2,500.

The Jonathan Teuscher Scholarship Fund has made possible nearly $200,000 in scholarship payments for area students since it was established in 2000.

Straub plans to attend Jamestown Community College to study individual studies. Gobien plans to attend Alfred University to study English. Rowand plans to attend SUNY Brockport to study social work. Keeley plans to attend Alfred State College to study human services.

Addie Fisher of Allegany-Limestone Central School received the Joseph and Cecily Higgins Scholarship.

The scholarship, established by Joseph and Cecily Higgins, is for an Allegany-Limestone Central School senior who intends to pursue a STEM (science, technology, engineering or math) degree. The scholarship, $10,000 in total, is given in $2,500 yearly disbursements over four years.

Fisher plans to study psychology at Houghton College.
