Eight area students were recently awarded alumni scholarships through funds managed by the Cattaraugus Region Community Foundation.
Alexa Saunders and Tyler Richards of Hinsdale Central School received the Hinsdale Alumni Association Memorial Scholarship, a $1,500 award.
This scholarship established by the Hinsdale Alumni Association is for a graduating senior of Hinsdale Central School. Recipients must have a grade average of 80% or higher, demonstrate qualities of good citizenship and have definite educational goals.
Saunders plans to study physical therapy at Jamestown Community College. Richards plans to attend St. Bonaventure University to study sports media and business management.
Bianca Simons and Evan Snyder of Olean High School received the OHS Class of 1961 Scholarship for $700.
Established by Duane A. Geuder, a 1961 Olean High School alumnus, and his classmates, the scholarship honors the class and its teachers, in particular Norm Utecht and Mabel Wilson. The scholarship is given to one male and one female student who has the top GPA in their math and science classes.
Simons plans to study pharmacy at Binghamton University. Snyder plans to study cybersecurity at St. Bonaventure University.
Chloe Hall of Olean High School received the OHS Class of 1983 Scholarship for $500.
This scholarship was created by the Olean High School Class of 1983 in memory of all of the deceased members of the class. The scholarship shall be awarded with first preference to a graduating high school senior who is a relative of a member of the Olean High School Class of 1983, with second preference for a graduating senior of Olean High School who is active in extracurriculars and/or community service.
Hall plans to study sonography at Northeast College of Health Sciences.
Noah Gallo and Tatiana Warmley of Olean High School received the Olean High School Alumni Association Scholarship.
The scholarship, $1,000 per year for up to four years, is for graduating seniors of OHS attending a post-secondary institution. Applications are reviewed by the OHS Alumni Association Scholarship committee, which recommends the recipients.
Gallo plans to attend Alfred State College. Warmley plans to study psychology at the University at Buffalo.
Halle Wilson of Otto-Eldred High School received the Otto-Eldred Alumni Scholarship for $2,500.
The Otto-Eldred Alumni Scholarship is a scholarship given annually to Otto-Eldred High School graduating seniors who have maintained at least a 2.75 GPA and received acceptance to, preferably, a two-year college or a four-year program.
Wilson plans to study forensic science at the Commonwealth University of Pennsylvania – Mansfield.
