Allegany-Limestone graduates receive CRCF scholarships

Five Allegany-Limestone graduates were recently awarded scholarships managed by the Cattaraugus Region Community Foundation.

Addie Fisher, Caleb Strade, Luke Griffin and Lauryn Ball received the Frank A. Martin III Memorial Scholarship for $500.

This scholarship is for graduating Allegany-Limestone Central School seniors planning to attend a 2- or 4-year college who participated in any sport and demonstrates strong community service.

Fisher plans to study psychology at Houghton College. Griffin plans to attend the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford to study social studies.

Ball also received the Allegany Public Library Memorial Association Scholarship for $500 and the Fred G. Grace Memorial Scholarship for $1,000.

Made possible by the Allegany Public Library Memorial Association Fund at CRCF, this scholarship is for a graduating senior from Allegany-Limestone who excels in English and will be attending a 2- or 4-year college. One of the student’s reference letters must be from an English teacher. The ALCS librarian serves as the scholarship reviewer and recommends the student recipient each year.

The Fred G. Grace Memorial Scholarship was established in memory of Mr. Grace, a long-time Allegany Central School administrator. The scholarship is for a senior from Allegany-Limestone Central School who will be majoring in business, education or a sports-related field. The recipient must also have lettered in a varsity sport. Walter and Michele Nye, Mr. Grace’s son-in-law and daughter, established the endowment at the Community Foundation. Mr. Grace dedicated more than 50 years to the Allegany Central School system, serving as a teacher, coach, principal and member of the board of education.

Ball plans to study accounting at SUNY Brockport.

Strade also received the Chipmonk Community Hall Scholarship, a $1,200 award.

This scholarship fund supports award for graduating students of Allegany-Limestone Central School, with preference given to a current resident of or a relative of a current resident of the Allegany, NY area of Chipmonk.

Strade plans to attend Keuka College to study business management.

Tatymn Lindell received the Shaun Costa Memorial Scholarship for $1,000.

The Shaun Costa Memorial Scholarship is for graduating Allegany-Limestone Central School seniors pursuing an education or expressing an interest in either a first responder- or vocational/technical-related field and/or a student who has faced a challenge and persevered.

Lindell plans to study biology at John Carroll University.
