Eight high school graduates recently received scholarship awards from funds managed by the Cattaraugus Region Community Foundation for students pursuing a degree in business.
Connor Young of Southwestern High School, Elora Watkins of Maple Grove High School, Madelia Griffith of Randolph Central School and Ryanna Brady of Salamanca High School received the Chautauqua Cattaraugus Board of Realtors Scholarship, a $500 award.
The Chautauqua Cattaraugus Board of Realtors Scholarship provides four awards total: two to graduates of Cattaraugus County high schools and two to graduates of Chautauqua County high schools in good academic standing. Preference is given to students pursuing a business-related degree.
Young plans to study business at Western Wyoming Community College. Watkins plans to study communications and Spanish at San Diego State University. Griffith plans to attend Georgia Southern University to study business administration. Brady plans to study criminology at Niagara University.
Sherry Chen of Salamanca High School and Airella Rogers of Pioneer Central School received the Daniel and Patrick McCarthy Scholarship for $1,000, while Portville’s Abram Cook and Cattaraugus-Little Valley’s Amelia Wolf received $800.
The scholarship, given through the generosity of the Catherine M. Cridler Trust, honors Daniel and Patrick McCarthy, two individuals instrumental in the success of the Olean Business Institute. The scholarship is available to graduating students in Cattaraugus County or McKean and Potter (PA) counties pursuing a business degree.
Chen plans to study marketing at Cornell University. Rogers plans to study finance at Canisius University. Cook plans to study mechanical engineering at Lipscomb University. Wolf plans to study criminal justice and business at Jamestown Community College.
