Six recent area graduates were awarded the Gregory D. Spring Perseverance Scholarship, an annual scholarship managed by the Cattaraugus Region Community Foundation.

Larson Hawkes and Nolan Kelsey of Olean High School, Lainey Dunlap and Sean Howard of Franklinville/Ten Broeck Academy, Grady Byroads of Ellicottville Central School and Ty Kosinski of Portville Central School all received awards this year.

Established in memory of Gregory Spring of Allegany by his family, this scholarship is available to graduating seniors of Olean High School, Allegany-Limestone Central School, Portville Central School, Franklinville/Ten Broeck Academy, Ellicottville Central School and Hinsdale Central schools pursuing a degree or certification, preferably in a trade or technical program.

Hawkes plans to study heavy equipment at Alfred State College. Kelsey plans to study electrical construction and maintenance at Alfred State College. Dunlap plans to study bible and theology at Houghton College. Howard plans to study welding at Alfred State College.

Byroads plans to study construction at Alfred State College. Kosinski plans to study heavy equipment operation at Alfred State College.

The Spring Scholarship has made possible over $78,000 in support for area students over the years.
