Community invited to learn about disaster preparedness at upcoming Cattaraugus Nonprofit Hub

Wed, Oct 22nd 2025 11:10 am

Community members and local organizations are invited to attend an informative discussion on Community Organizations Active in Disaster (COAD) from 1 to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, November 12, at Jamestown Community College’s Cutco Theater.

The event will provide attendees with a better understanding of what a COAD is, the role these organizations play during emergencies and how they collaborate to strengthen community resilience before, during and after disasters.

Participants will be educated on:

  • What a COAD is and what the role is
  • What a COAD looks like in action
  • Emergency action plans already in existence - presented by Scott Golden, Allegany County Director of Emergency Management, and Chris Baker, Cattaraugus County Emergency Services Director

According to the International Association of Emergency Managers, emergency management is “the managerial function charged with creating the framework within which communities reduce vulnerability to hazards and cope with disasters.” COADs are a crucial part of that framework, coordinating resources and partnerships that help communities respond and recover effectively.

“Building a strong, connected network of organizations that can respond quickly in times of crisis is essential to community wellbeing,” said Kirk Windus, CRCF executive director. “By coming together and forming a COAD, we can ensure that when disaster strikes, help reaches those who need it most.”

The Cattaraugus Nonprofit Hub is presented in collaboration by the United Way of Cattaraugus and Allegany Counties, the Cattaraugus Region Community Foundation, the Dr. Lyle F. Renodin Foundation and St. Bonaventure University.

To register for this event, please email your job title and affiliated organization to Tyler Veno at [email protected].
