Area students can begin applying for scholarships managed by the Cattaraugus Region Community Foundation on February 1.

Students can apply using the online scholarship portal at cattfoundation.org/apply-for-scholarships. Filling out one common application allows students to apply for awards from more than 75 scholarship funds.

In 2019, CRCF awarded just short of $180,000 in scholarship payments to over 150 area students.

Scholarships are available to students throughout the region (including, depending on the criteria of each fund, Cattaraugus, Allegany, Chautauqua and McKean (PA) counties) for a multitude of interests and career/educational goals.

Since the last scholarship funding cycle, eight new scholarship funds have been established at CRCF, with their awards to benefit a number of different schools in the region and support students in varying career ventures, said CRCF Executive Director Karen Niemic Buchheit.

New scholarship funds include:

  • Big 30 Athletic Fund
  • Cattaraugus County Trappers Memorial Scholarship
  • Chipmonk Community Hall Scholarship
  • Elisa B. Hughey Scholarship for the Arts
  • Hughey Family Award for Resilience
  • Marjorie and Robert Schaumleffel Rotary Scholarship
  • OHS Class of 1983 Scholarship Fund
  • The Good Samaritan Award Fund

“It has been really amazing to watch our scholarship program grow over the last few years,” said Buchheit. “I think donors see the way their selfless choice can really help provide a future for these deserving kids, and time and time again we see people from the community stepping forward to do more to help students pursue their dreams.”

Applicants will apply entirely online and submit supporting documentation such as transcripts and recommendation letters using the online portal as well.

Applications must be completed and submitted by April 1.

“We are excited here at CRCF about the coming scholarship season,” Buchheit said. “We believe that education is at the center of our community’s future, and we are proud to manage this program to support the talented and deserving young people.”

Prior to applying students are strongly encouraged to review available scholarships on the foundation website at cattfoundation.org/funds and read more about tips for a great application at cattfoundation.org/apply-for-scholarships.

Students and parents may contact CRCF Database and Donor Services Manger Taylor Green with any questions about the application process at 716-301-2723 or [email protected].
