Four area graduates receive Burt Scholarship

Four recent area graduates recently received the Burt Scholarship, an annual scholarship managed by the Cattaraugus Region Community Foundation.

Megan JozwiakAlice LiMegan Jozwiak of Hinsdale Central School, Alice Li of Allegany-Limestone Central School, Mary Ring of Olean High School and Anthony Smith from Portville Central School all received the award of $1,100 each this year.

Established by the Burt Committee of the First Presbyterian Church of Olean in memory of Dr. Rudy Burt, the scholarship, $1,100 this year, is given each year to one student each from Olean High School and Portville, Allegany-Limestone and Hinsdale Central Schools.

Jozwiak will study nursing at Jamestown Community College. Li will attend Boston Anthony SmithMary RingCollege to study biology/pre-med. Ring will study English at Colgate University. Smith plans to attend to study mechanical engineering at the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT).

Since 2004 the Burt Scholarship Fund has made possible $54,000 in support for area students pursuing post-secondary education.
